The name Reiki derives from the Japanese pronunciation of two Japanese characters that describe the energy itself: "rei" (meaning 'unseen' or 'spiritual') and "ki" (Chinese "qi", here meaning 'energy' or 'life force').

3 Easy Grow Taller Stretching Exercises
There are many possibilities when it comes to increasing your height naturally, and one of the best methods of doing so is through exercising. By repeatedly targeting the muscles in key areas, namely the back, these muscles will gradually strengthen, which in the case of your back causes your spinal column to lengthen by easing the compression of the vertebral discs.
There are plenty of different exercises, of varying effectiveness and difficulty, that can be used to target these key areas, and we’ll examine three of them below.
Trunk Twist - This exercise can be fun to perform, and gives your spine a great workout, putting it through a full range of motion, horizontally and vertically. It also targets the abs in one fell swoop as well, so you can kill two ailing birds with one stone.
If you’ve done sit-ups before, you probably know the drill. Lie down on your back and anchor your feet beneath a solid object that can bear the force of your body. Unlike sit-ups, your feet must be anchored for this exercise, else balance is all but impossible to maintain.
You may think this routine is like sit-ups, but it’s slightly different. You’ll be holding the same position, halfway between a lying and erect sitting position, and once there, you’ll be swiveling slowly to each side, with your hands clasped behind your head to help hold you in place. Do turns to each side 5 times per sitting.
Roll Over Stretch - This exercise targets your lower back specifically, and is also great for increasing flexibility in your back and legs. To perform this exercise, lie down flat on your back, and then roll backwards, letting your feet touch the ground behind your head. Keep your shoulders flat on the ground, and use them to help balance you. Hold this position for 20-30 seconds and you’re done.
Wall Bridge - Find a position approximately two feet from a wall and stand with your back to it. You’ll need to test this out once or twice to get a good feel for the necessary distance. Now reach your hands up into the air and behind your head, all the way back until they’re touching the wall, with your back still to the wall. Now slowly use this leverage with the wall to walk down the wall with your hands, as far as you can go. Once you’ve reached your limit, climb slowly back up the wall with your hands, and then push off near the top to get back to a standing position. This is a tremendous workout for flexibility of the back.
These three back exercises will put your flexibility and willpower to the test, with outstanding results. The workout on the lower back you’ll get with these routines can be felt and appreciated immediately after doing them, which makes them infectious to perform.

The seven chakra points of energy
We daily discover newer secrets about the facts that make us a superior race and helped us survive and evolve through extremely competitive and tough environment. Of these numerous unexplored mysteries about our existence there is the theory of the seven chakras or energy points in our bodies that regulate our physical as well as mental self.
Apart from the physical energy that we get from substances that we consume as a part of our routine diet, the human body also requires a good amount of cosmic energy that is a result of the energy exchange between the seven chakra network in our body and the heavenly bodies above us.
The exact purpose and functions of these seven chakras are not entirely defined though there has been a good amount of knowledge that we possess about them. A strong belief suggests that it is the way that you feel that generates the kind of results, in case you are not confident about a particular task and feel very low before even trying you would come back with a negative result only where in if you have always been positive you end up getting the desired results and these things are important even when things are least/most likely to happen.
Each chakra plays its part in controlling and regulating a particular organ or habit that we possess, also the level of impact the chakras would have on their specified body part or behaviour would be different from each other.
The seven chakras that have a huge impact on our existence and on our actions can be further explained in details as follows.
The first chakra that lies towards the end of the spine is known as the root chakra, its impact is clearly visible on the character of the person, while the chakra has positive energy it develops the characteristics of strong will and determination. This chakra helps to control the organs in the lower abdomen, especially the intestine and other organs.
Genital Chakra lies above the root chakra and is very important as it helps to control the organs that are important for excretory purposes. This chakra with positive energy could mean that a person is not distracted by luscious offers and can help to have a broad mind. With negativity it can lead to establishing negative vibes and feelings.
The third chakra that helps regulate the functions and the activities of the stomach and other important organs of digestion, is referred to as the umbilical chakra. It helps to maintain a good balance of mind so as to help in decision making. On the negative side it has an impact on the thoughts leading to the arousing of feelings that result from an unstable mind.
The heart chakra deals with the emotions dealing with the heart, on the positive end it evokes love and compassion while on the negative side a person becomes arrogant and hypocrite. This circle of energy is related to the cardiovascular system of the human body.
Above the heart chakra lies the fifth of the chakras, the throat chakra. This energy circle has an impact of the voice you possess and the kind of language that you speak. The neck and mouth are some of the important parts that are covered by this chakra.
The third eye chakra is the sixth chakra and it helps to pass judgements and perceive things. Positive energy here enhances vision, hearing and smelling powers.
The seventh and the final chakra is crown chakra which promotes the thirst for enlightenment.

How A Massage Therapy Picture Can Inspire You
The common adage about pictures painting a thousand words may have more wisdom in it than what we think when we apply it to a massage therapy picture and why we should have one. What exactly can you do with a massage therapy picture?
What You Can Use It For
A great massage therapy picture is what you can use to tell the world who you are and that you are in business. Most people would naturally think that a massage therapy picture can be used only for marketing and advertising. A good picture however is first and foremost an image and reputation building tool. You simply have to post a massage therapy picture strategically to make the best use of it. The most common places to put a picture would be on a website, brochure, business card or promotional ad.
Where to Get Pictures
The internet is one abundant source of royalty-free massage therapy pictures which you can use for your clinic. You can easily do that too but it is always a better idea to take your own pictures. You are, after all, talking about your business and you would like people to see the real set up of your services.
You don’t really need a professional photographer to do the picture taking for you. All you need is a good light and a high quality camera. It would also make a lot of sense to shoot numerous angles of just one area or pose so you can easily choose the best massage therapy picture to use.
People Pictures
There are many different kinds of pictures you can take but we all know that pictures of actual people are a must. The best kind of promotional pictures for your web site would be actual shots of people undergoing a treatment or service. It would be tempting to use beautiful models for a massage therapy picture promotional shot. It would however be better if you asked permission from real patients and took shots of them. This would give potential clients a glimpse of men, women and children from all walks of life enjoying your services.
Other Pictures
Pictures of people are not the only images you can use. Promotional ads and website backgrounds can feature relaxing pictures that can send out the message that your services promote a soothing and healing experience. You could also take a massage therapy picture of your staff and equipment to make people know that they are in good hands and in a good facility.
Your Picture
A small snapshot of you may go a long way to tell clients that it’s run by a real, tangible person. It may not be such a good idea to have your picture splashed everywhere especially if you are not yet as well known as you would want to be. It might be good though to at least have your picture on your business card. Your massage therapy picture on your card is a personal touch that many people would appreciate.

Meditate for Success
The Enlightened Way of Living could have been the title of Eknath Easwaran’s book Meditation. I wondered what all of those chapters could have to do with meditation. However, it is explained beautifully throughout the entire book.
I didn’t really know what I could gain from meditation that I wasn’t already accomplishing through yoga. So, I didn’t have a desire to start. It was something we yogi’s SHOULD do. But I didn’t WANT to. I had been on this journey of taming my inner demons for years, and felt stuck for about 2. So, one paragraph suggesting that meditation could help quiet the egoic mind had me intrigued.
The author did an amazing job of relating concepts in a way that was moving and yet down to earth. I felt comfortable with the whole concept of meditation for the first time in my life. I was actually moved to tears by some of his examples because of the way he incorporated symbolism and human nature. I really related to his stories of his grandmother. I also felt that every concept taught was familiar and truthful to me-excepting his idea that organized religion is a way to feed our egos. I choose to believe that he is making a case not limiting ourselves to the teachings of one school of thought.
Chalk it up to my ignorance on the subject, but I was surprised when he suggested meditating on a mantra or prayer. I thought that the whole point of meditation was to clear you mind of all thought. I was actually relieved when he said that is virtually impossible, as I have never been able to do it.
I have always been intrigued by the observation that most great enlightened minds in history come to virtually the same conclusions. With, of course variations due to culture, circumstance or time in history. But, truth is always truth, and those who seek it will find it wherever or however they may be.
I have always been a little leery of venturing out of my own religious comfort zone (if you will) as far as meditation and mantras are concerned. I thought it might fall into the put no other Gods before me or worshiping idols category. That being said, I have also always had an open mind as someone who was taught a lot of great truths from a non-religious parent with a lot of short-comings, not the least of which was being alcoholic and abusive. My point in stating all of this is that when the author suggested :
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
as one of the most beautiful mantrams he has ever heard, I initially put it out of my mind as one suitable for me because of its connotations in my mind of the Jewish faith. Not that it is bad, just that I thought it would contradict my beliefs. However, after I read the meaning of the words broken down into their syllabic meanings, I, too, thought it one of the most beautiful mantrams I have ever heard. Those three words mean, Oh Lord who has stolen my heart, I cannot rest until I find Him. He ceaselessly, ceaselessly draws me unto Him, and is the only source of true joy. I love finding words in foreign languages that say so much in so few syllables! I find that English just doesnt do feelings justice in so many instances.
For my own benefit, I want to sum up a few of the insightful gems that I already related to but gained a better understanding of from this book: Our bodies are only a type of clothing; we shed our bodies at death; when you recognize illusion, it evaporates; lose yourself, and you shall find yourself; slow down in order to speed up; depth, not breadth; the senses CAN be trained and therefore magnified; discipline is freedom.
If you have ever sought more truth, knowledge, peace or freedom, read this book. It is now out of print, but thank goodness for Amazon. At the very least, meditation will provide moments of peace, clarity, and insight. To my friends who are skeptical of the mystical as I was, I just suggest that meditation is taking the time to actually listen for answers to prayers.

Simple Meditation Techniques Anyone Can Do
Some people wonder just how hard it is to meditate properly. The good news is that it’s really not that difficult, and the benefits can be well worth the learning curve.
During meditation, your mind and body are in a state of conscious relaxation and focus. You will experience sharpened awareness of both your outer surroundings and your inner being.
There are many different ways to practice meditation. Fundamentally, however, the main beliefs are similar. The key to a successful meditation experience is to still your mind by flushing out negative thoughts and emotions through deep focus. Later, your thoughts will be less scattered and your actions more purposeful.
Think of it as housekeeping of your inner being. Your negative thoughts and emotions (think of how you react to traffic jams, telemarketers, and your neighbor’s new Lexus) are what “pollute” your mind. Meditation “cleanses” the mind, allowing you to focus on the things that really matter.
Your meditation session will be most effective in a calm environment. Find a room in the house where you feel comfortable. If there are other people at home, choose a location where you can close the door and muffle the noise. Turn off the phone, the dishwasher, the washing machine, and don’t let anyone vacuum.
Once meditating is part of your routine, you’ll likely want some extras to enhance the experience. Calming meditation tapes, some aromatic candles and a meditation chair or pillow will help to set the stage.
You’ve probably seen the typical pictures of people meditating, twisted up like a pretzel with impeccable posture. You’ll be relieved to know that this isn’t at all necessary. The idea is to be comfortably positioned so you can focus on your meditation, not your screaming muscles. You can sit cross-legged with your back against the wall, you can lie down, stand up and even walk around.
It is important, however, to keep your back straight while sitting or standing. No slumping allowed, or you might just fall asleep. To help you be comfortable in your chosen position, you’ll want to wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes so that you’re not focusing on your waistband digging into your gut. You have more important things to focus on.
A mantra can be a useful part of a meditation routine. A mantra is a word or sound that is continuously repeated, and you should be focused your mantra alone during meditation. Find a meaningful phrase or a certain word, or even just a sound that resonates with you. Although not totally necessary, a mantra will help you to really focus on your breathing and take you to a higher state of consciousness.
Focus is the most important aspect of meditation. Envision an object in your mind or look at an object in your vicinity, and contemplate it to the exclusion of anything else. The same applies to a particular thought as well as to your mantra.
For an easy meditation routine to get you started, start by settling yourself in your chosen sanctuary. Close your eyes, and envision each part of your body, from the top down or bottom up, it doesn’t matter. Silently name each part as you think of it, and give it your full attention. You’ll immediately notice if there’s tension or discomfort in that particular location. In your mind, visualize the tension leaving that body part. You’ll be amazed at the results!

Benefit Both Your Mind and Body With Yoga
Yoga is very fashionable these days, and without a doubt, it has numerous benefits. It has a low frequency of injury, it lowers stress levels and anxiety, and improves muscle strength. And maybe best of all, it really doesn’t seem like exercise. So how come more people don’t take up the practice of simple yoga?
Those who are uninitiated to yoga think that it’s mystical and passive, a “New Age” activity that doesn’t relate to everyday life. Oftentimes, these days, people experience a vacuum in their lives because most of their activity is directed outward. And just as often, to get back to health and balance, they’re going to have to redirect their attention inward, to go back to experiencing self.
In fact, yoga is an Indian discipline that has been practiced for more than 5000 years. Yet, here, it still boasts few followers. Almost half of the American adult population swims, while about 25% run or jog, but only 2% practice yoga.
The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit “yuj,” which means to yoke or connect. With yoga’s various techniques, you can achieve mental and physical equilibrium, inner peace, and improved health. Indeed, yoga is commonly said to provide not just a workout, but a “work-in”.
There are at least eight main branches of yoga and several offshoots of each, but essentially there are only two concerned with exercise: hatha yoga and kundalini yoga.
Hatha is the most popular type of yoga in the Western world. It is a slow-paced discipline that emphasizes controlled breathing and assuming various physical poses. It is said to aid the nervous system, the glands and the vital organs.
Kundalini, which was introduced to this country in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan, is more active, combining various modes of breathing, movement and meditation. It is based on the idea that body energy that is coiled below the base of the spine can be tapped so that it travels upward through different energy centers or chakras until it reaches the head. At this point one arrives at one’s highest potential.
There are 84 basic yoga positions, classically speaking, also called asanas. These are done in tandem with special breathing techniques. The asanas or yoga positions can be simple twists and bends, or can be as complicated as pretzel-like contortions that only the most advanced practitioners are capable of. These various positions help build flexibility and make muscles longer. When used with proper breathing, they can help you rid your body of tension. The utilization of static holds helps isolate and strength in particular muscles.
Asanas have evolved over the centuries so as to exercise every muscle, nerve and gland in the body. They secure a fine physique, which is strong and elastic without being muscle-bound, and they keep the body free from disease. They reduce fatigue and soothe the nerves. But their real importance lies in the way they train and discipline the mind.

Applications For Aromatherapy Remedies
Recently, the field of aromatherapy has extended to the manufacturing of different products for the general household freshening or as bug repellent elements. Currently, essential oils are also widely used in the design of cosmetic products such as perfumes, soaps, facial toners and lotions; the natural components make the products a lot more reliable and safer to use.
Aromatherapy candles are ideal for the soothing of headaches, the calming of the irritated sinus or in the treatment of asthma and allergy symptoms. Moreover, natural fragrances have great tension and anxiety releasing properties with applications in every day life. The blends of essential oils are not limited to the making of aromatherapy candles, they are also included in the composition of soaps, sprays, body lotions and bath salts. Simple natural treatments, this is the motto that best describes the extensive usage of aromatherapy candles by people all over the world. How do aromatherapy candles work and how good are they for one’s health?
The greatest applications for aromatherapy remedies are those that aim at improving nervous conditions like high irritability, sleeplessness, concentration deficiencies and the like. Depending on how severe the problem is, more or less intense aromatherapy remedies can be used but only at the recommendation of an expert. Thus, candles and herbal bath salts can improve the mood and allow one to develop the relaxation state necessary for a good night’ rest. More severe conditions involve the controlled exposure to more complex aromatherapy remedies preferably in a therapeutic professional environment.
It must be noted that aromatherapy for depression is very often misunderstood and conducted improperly or superficially. Using essential oils at home could be a true relief, but you should also consider the instructions or the recommendations of the therapist; the best results in the use of aromatherapy for depression treatment have been registered with the practice in an organized professional environment. Thus, the therapist has a direct control of the session and the exposure to more concentrated doses of volatile oils triggers a better response on the part of the nervous system. The inhalation of the extracts is often gradual and closely supervised so that no side effects may appear.
Aromatherapy soy candles are made of 100% pure soy wax that ensures a clean-burning period without any dripping or soot formation. Quality aromatherapy soy candles include only herbal colorants, meaning that the shades of green, rose, yellow or blue are the result of mixing natural pigments extracted from different herbs. Moreover, the element that differentiates these candles from scented products is the all natural presence of essential oils in the composition. Here are a few attributes of aromatherapy soy candles that you should consider before making a purchase; yet, the products will very much speak for themselves once you try them for yourself.
The methods of obtaining essential oils are closely connected with the variety of aromatherapy recipes. Even when made from the same plant, the oils vary in terms of concentration and properties. To start from a basic example, keep in mind the fact that the essential oils can be extracted from blossoms, roots, wood or from the entire plant. The creation of the aromatherapy recipes is just the beginning of a process that starts with the distillation, the maceration, the pressing or the solvent extraction of the essential oils. The specificity of one recipe or another will therefore depend on the manufacturing of the essential oils too.

Physiotherapy for the Shoulder
The shoulder, or more strictly the glenohumeral joint, is a major and important joint in the upper limb, responsible mostly for placing the hand in front of the body where the eyes can see it as it performs tasks. To allow this ability the shoulder has a very large range of movement, moderate strength and limited stability. This makes the shoulder a “soft tissue joint”, where the stability and satisfactory function depend on the function of the soft tissues, the ligaments, tendons and muscles. For physiotherapists the shoulder is an important joint, with much treatment and pre- and post-operative rehab required.
The humeral head and the glenoid of the scapula make up the glenohumeral joint, with the glenoid being small and flat and the humeral ball being large and partly spherical. The main ligaments and shoulder tendons insert on the humeral head, giving the movement and support the joint requires. The socket is made deeper by the glenoid labrum, a rim made of cartilage, which aids joint stability. Above the shoulder lies a joint between the outer end of the clavicle and the acromion, part of the scapula. This is a stability joint for arm movement and called the acromio-clavicular joint.
A great many muscles act on the shoulder joint and on the other joints in the shoulder girdle, the acromioclavicular, sternoclavicular and scapulothoracic joints. The glenohumeral and scapulothoracic joints are acted upon by the major stabilisers and movers in the area, varying from power muscles which allow forceful work to stability muscles such as serratus anterior and the rotator cuff to smaller movement muscles such as deltoid. The muscles must keep the relationship between the shoulder blade and the thorax and ribcage steady and under control for the glenohumeral joint to also enjoy stability and precise movement.
The shoulder muscle tendons become flatter and thinner as they approach and then insert themselves onto the head of the humerus. By this way the rotator cuff, a group of four muscles including the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis, is able to exert its forces on the humeral head. The tendons coalesce as they surround and insert onto the ball of the humerus, forming a cuff around the ball, centering the ball on the socket to counter the tendency to slide upwards under muscle activity. Keeping the ball centred on the socket means the larger and more powerful muscles can perform functional shoulder and arm movements.
The rotator cuff degenerates with age, small tears appearing across its substance which can progress to massive tears, completely interfering with muscular function of the shoulder. Rotator cuff tears are often painful but it is not clear exactly why, as many older people have tears and do not have pain. Physiotherapists work to strengthen the rotator cuff or by exercising the main shoulder muscles without gravity resistance and gradually increasing the effort. Physios also work on rehabilitation after rotator cuff surgery for rotator cuff tears, following the detailed protocols for small, medium, large or massive rotator cuff tears.
Osteoarthritis (OA) more commonly affects the hips and the knees, however the shoulder can be severely affected in which cases physiotherapy can help with advice, mobilisation of the joints and work on strength and joint motion. Once physiotherapy treatment has been tried then total shoulder replacement is the only remaining treatment option, surgical replacement occurring of the head of the arm bone and the socket of the shoulder blade. As the shoulder is referred to as a “soft-tissue joint” it is the balance and strength of the tendons, muscles and ligaments that determines a good outcome for the replacement. Physiotherapists closely follow the surgical protocols to get the optimal results.
Physiotherapists treat many other types of shoulder problems such as impingement, tendinitis, hypermobility, abnormal muscle patterning, fractures and dislocations. Impingement is treated by strengthening the rotator cuff or by subacromial injection or acromioplasty operation, where the end of the acromion can be excised. Tendinitis is treated by direct treatment of the tendon and graded strengthening and hypermobility by stability work and accepting the limitations dictated by the condition. Abnormal muscle patterning is managed by teaching normal patterns functionally and fractures and dislocations by the protocols laid down by the surgeons and trauma physiotherapists.

Stretching made Easy and Enjoyable
We’ve heard it again and again: stretch before doing sports or before you go jogging. Ever since first year gym class, we have been taught that stretching before doing physically demanding work is key if we want to prevent getting serious injured. Never mind that all the top athletes do it - there is just not enough motivated for us to do it on a daily basis.
So why should we stretch? Stretching can, in fact, be advantageous in a number of ways. The first, and most obvious reason we should stretch is the old (yet valid) argument that we have been spoon-fed for so long - that stretching minimizes injury during any physical activity, and makes the tired muscles less painful the next day. But why is this? As we stretch, we send oxygenated blood to circulate through our body and brain, which helps rid our body of unwanted toxins and it enhances both our physical and mental performance. Our joints, tendons, and muscles tend to lose their elasticity with old age, so the more we stretch when we are young, the more fit and flexible you’ll be in the future.
Stretching is also good for relieving stress. Whenever you are pressured by physical or emotional stress, your muscles store unnecessary tensions, and by doing a few simple stretches you can disperse these tensions. For osteopaths, however, the most important reason for going stretches is to keep your back in shape. The back can only move in six directions, and therefore becomes stiff very quickly. And as the back is the foundation of our musculoskeletal system, making sure it stays healthy and flexible is of utmost importance.
It is best to stretch at least three times a week, preferably in the mornings after a hot shower has warmed up your muscles, or at the end of the day, when your muscles have been warmed naturally.
Despite what professionals say, it is not easy to maintain a stretching routine - for the simple reason that they are tedious. It is easy to set up a stretch routine, but following it is a different story. The best way to make yourself stick to a routine is by making the exercises fun. Instead of doing your stretches by yourself, for example, do them with a friend or relative - mundane things are much more interesting with company around. Or if there is a news or television program you watch regularly, do you stretches in front of the telly. This way, you get your stretches done and no one can call you a couch-potato.
You might have heard of the recent controversy - some experts are now arguing that static stretching (stretching while standing still) actually makes muscles weaker. As there is no concrete evidence to suggest that this is true, the best solution is to find the right balance. Do not hold stretch positions for too long, and try to incorporate as much movement into each stretch (i.e. swinging your arms or legs instead of holding them still). Also try to avoid having long stretch sessions - it is better to do shorter slots throughout the day.
We are often being bombarded with new tips and approaches of how to do things, but it is important to keep in mind that you should only do what works for you. If a stretch is not working for you, do something else! Regardless of whether you are a fitness guru or not, making sure you stretch regularly is vital for preventing problems in the future
