Acupuncture is an ancient alternative form of treatment, for illnesses in the different body systems, that has been in existence for hundreds of years. It makes use of thin, sterile, stainless steel needles, inserted into identified acupuncture points, depending on he part of the body that is affected with illness.
The treatment plan depends on the kind of illness, the state of the illness and the patient’s response to acupuncture. Generally it starts at a weekly basis, gradually reducing in frequency as the patient’s condition improves.
Acupuncture can also be used to prevent illness and disharmony from developing in the first place. An over-worked brain can damage the spleen and lead to Qi deficiency causing imbalances in Yin and Yang and the flow of Qi and Blood.”How does acupunture work then?” Acupuncture is effective for a wide range of ailments including anything from respiratory, digestive, cardio-vascular, musculo-skeletal and emotional/psychological conditions.
Acupuncture is based on the principles or Chinese belief that Qi ( pronounced as “chee”), the term for the life force or “energy force” , exists and enforces control anywhere in the world, including the human bodies. Qi flows in the human body as shown in the acupuncture chart. The lines indicating the flow of Qi are called meridians or pathways. Blocked pathways can reduced the amount of Qi flowing in the body and consequently, imbalances happen. It is part of the belief that illnesses are caused by any imbalances of the Yin and Yang the terms for the positive and negative forces respectively of expansion or contraction.

Acupuncture is no longer just for pain relief. It is now more commonly used in some hospitals or in drug rehabilitation centers as one of the measures to alleviate sufferings from depression or addiction. It is believed that illness occurs if any of the fourteen Qi meridians or pathways is clogged or blocked. The acupuncture needles serve to unblock whatever keeps Qi from flowing smoothly within the body. Needles also serve to activate the muscle nerve fibers. The muscle nerves as transmitters of impulses to the spinal card and eventually only other centers of the nervous system. The activation of nerve centers cause the release of certain substances to bring relief from the pain felt by the owners.
